My Survival Series Pt3: "The Road Seeking"

After getting a list of some villages to pass and use as routes, we began the unintended journey. gradually we were getting on into the high hills to a point we became confused and God's mercies brought us two fulani men with long beards passing by with a small gallon of fuel. we had no choice rather than to seek for directions of where to follow as the roads were parted in two. the men gave us lists of routes to take to get to maiha town before night fall.

The villages they gave us were Korya,Mbula, mujara and Kasuwan Dare. the two of them were also in a haste to evacuate their wives and children to safety. the petrol in their hands was for their motor bikes. we thanked them and moved on with the list as a guide to where to follow even though we didn't trust them that much. we got to a very small household and begged for water as many of us were already thirsty. we were offered some water and we drank. all this was without food  and noon was fast approaching. while we were taking a little rest on the road side,i saw my friend and roommate who was initially trapped in mubi. he narrated to us how they had to run at midnight to escape as smoke was seen from a nearby university. i was happy that my friend was safe and unhurt. along with him were few others and our survival team increased in number. our number encouraged us to keep riding on though we don't really  know which path is the right one. we later got to a farm settlement where we asked for the path which will lead us to Korya village. at first a man misled us into a valley of crops which seemed to have no road in it at all. but we were immediately corrected by a woman whose house was beside the farm. she went ahead of us while we humbly followed. we thanked her and kept on moving. at this point as we were heading up the hilly roads, we looked back down to the valley of mubi's location. we saw clouds of smoke evolving from Mubi at a very far distance. it was as if the town was set ablaze. we began to see fighter jets moving to and fro Mubi town. we heard sounds of jet bombs. the military were air-striking. this was a sign that the situation was horrific back there.

We then got to a little empty river path. we decided to rest a bit. we saw clean water gushing out from the ground. we drank in order to get the strength to move on. we finally then got to Korya village after crossing a little river which had no much tides. at korya we were shown the path to Mbula. we were warned that the path to mbula is usually confusing to a stranger as the path was so bushy in nature. a man volunteered to lead us to a basic route in order to avoid confusion. we gradually followed while he led us. we then got to the mbula village. it had two routes. one which leads to Mujara town which heads to Cameroun  and the other to a little town very close to mubi. we all decided to take the path that leads to mujara town because we were told it has a path to Maiha town which will lead to the state capital Yola. immediately after passing Mbula village, we found ourselves in a bushy farm and some of us who were at the front began to run. we followed the trend and wandered into the farms. behold it was a Hilux van which was conveying some families to safety. those who ran first thought it was the terror group Boko Haram as they usually use Hilux vans when invading locations through bushes. after taking a little rest to calm down from the fear pressure, we continued our quest. we got to a small town where we got some water and there we were told that some soldiers on foot passed and also sought routes to take.

The more we drank water and rested the more energy we gained without food at all. indeed water is life. as we approached a household area, we saw some of our students and two lecturers. one of them was a former school coach. we all moved on from there. but when we got to a junction which had two paths, one heading to the long awaited  Mujara town and the other to Gella town very close to the troubled mubi town. some of us whom we were together with right from the beginning followed the lecturers and headed to Gella town area. we also saw some soldiers on foot with rifles. seeing them alone discouraged us from heading to Gella as nothing on uniform could be trusted at that point because the terror group usually wear military uniforms too. we who were still together decided to head to mujara town. we trekked for about three hours and finally we got there but the town was not conducive for us because of the way the people there were looking at us. we also saw some other displaced persons and children. so we began to seek for paths to maiha town and we were given Paka, and Kasuwan Dare Villages as  routes to take to maiha. but we were warned that Paka village was said to have beeen attacked that same day. we were not sure if the information was true or false. we were told that if we continued moving forward we will be heading to a Camerounian Border town called Boukoula. since we all sought safety we decided to head to cameroun with no choice.
